Beyond border health: Infrastructural violence and the health of border abolition

Most existing approaches to border health focus on identifying the social determinants that produce ill and disparities among migrants, including language barriers, documentation status, trauma associated with migration. Attention these kinds of problems can lead policy clinical changes indeed help improve quantitatively measurable outcomes for patients. However, usually ignore larger historical political framework determines – underlying infrastructure health, or what we term infrastructural health. In this paper, outline specific infrastructures involving race, economy, history, most importantly, borders themselves, lay foundations illness. We examine plans, histories, policies, peoples involved in building conditions migration, particularly out Northern Triangle, forces colonialism, US imperialism, neoliberalism, militarization. place a tacit acceptance modern system borders, argue abolition as vital but underused treatment repertoire medical intervention. Outlining rights people stay move, drawing lessons from prison movement, offer policies practices towards ‘no borders’ privileges liberatory solidarity migrants by explicitly challenging global drive displacement. doing so, an emergent treats both causes symptoms widespread sickness.
